A Friend’s Reaction to a Friends Dilemma

Posted by hteodosio on Jun-13-2008

Just this night, I had a conference with some of my friends, one of them ask me how he should approach this situation.

My friend work for a outsourcing company for more than a year now and have been working for his client for almost a year, and my friends reputation exceeds him in terms of workmanship and is highly appreciated by his client, and for some reason, although I admit jealousy is amidst in this mind of mine, his client is paying for his non-working hours. In due time my friend decided to further his career by taking another path to gaining wisdom and that is to return back to school as a student, and to some good graces his client accepted this and ask his company if it would be fine if my friend doesn’t complete the necessary number of working hours in which the company responded through verbal that it is not a problem to them.

Its almost like a fantasy dream for every employee to experience this but as they say in every dream theirs a nightmare waiting, after a few days of agreement my friend was then informed that the management decided to change their decision and asked my friend to file a resignation which is somewhat troublesome since the company agreed to the agreement between the client and the company itself, the reason for this is that its unfair to his fellow co-workers that his having this kind of a treatment and what if his fellow workers would do the same.

This puzzles me a lot since:

1. The company and my friend’s client agreed on the manner that my friends working hours would be diminish

2. How could it be unfair to his fellow co-workers since the client itself is paying for his non-working hours and

3. How can his fellow workers follow his lead since in his company they have different clients for every worker or agent as my friend calls it.

If it was possible and maybe it is that a certain client has a team of agents hired, I guess its the client’s discretion or choice if it would pay the agent’s loss of working hours or not.
